Will Thinning Be Good For Long Straight Hair?

I have long straight hair about half way down my back. I've had a side fringe and layers put in the front which i do like. But the bottom of my hair curls under and looks thick. I want it to be straight at the bottom and a bit thinner. I've tried straightening but it still curls under. I'm wondering whether to ask my hair dresser to thin it out. Will this help my problem or just make me look stupid? Please help! :'-(

I dont have my hair thinned now as the ends get REALLY damaged and frizzy if you use hair straigheners.

Whats wrong with it curling under?
